Every day, veterans return home from service to spaces that no longer support them.

Doorways too narrow. Bathrooms unsafe. Entire levels of homes become impossible to navigate.

For many, the place that should offer comfort becomes a daily obstacle.

Project Dustoff exists to change that.

Project Dustoff Mission

Project Dustoff exists to elevate the quality of life for disabled veterans and their families by transforming their homes into safe, welcoming, and accessible spaces that foster independence and restore dignity.

While many veterans qualify for assistance, help doesn’t always come quickly—or at all. Long wait times, funding gaps, and complex processes often delay critical accessibility improvements, leaving families to navigate homes that no longer meet their needs. With only about 1.5% of homes in the United States being handicap accessible, the need for immediate, practical solutions is undeniable.

Project Dustoff was created to step into that gap.

Our dedicated teams work tirelessly to deliver real, tangible improvements that make everyday life safer and more manageable—installing wheelchair ramps and accessible entryways, modifying bathrooms, widening doorways, and removing mobility barriers throughout the home. Every project is tailored to the individual, ensuring each veteran has a home that supports their independence instead of limiting it.

More than a mission, Project Dustoff is a tribute to the brave men and women who have sacrificed for our freedom. In honoring Major Kelly’s final words, “When I have your wounded,” we are committed to caring for those who carry the scars of service right here at home.

These courageous veterans fought for our freedom. Now, we stand ready to fight for theirs—the freedom to live safely, independently, and with dignity in the place they call home.

History of Dustoff Rescues

Coined during the profound challenges of the Vietnam War, the call sign "DUSTOFF" stands for “Dedicated Unhesitating Service to Our Fighting Forces.” This name encapsulates a remarkable ethos of compassion and courage. When helicopters landed in the tumultuous fields, they stirred up clouds of dust and debris, a poignant symbol of both urgency and hope.

Pilots like Major Charles L. Kelly exemplified extraordinary bravery, often making the ultimate sacrifice to rescue the wounded from the chaos of war. His last words, “When I have your wounded…,” reflect an unwavering commitment to those in peril; he resolutely refused to leave anyone behind. Inspired by his legacy, DUSTOFF soldiers pledged to prioritize the needs of the injured, embodying a spirit of selflessness that transcends the battlefield.

Between 1962 and 1973, these dedicated heroes evacuated over 900,000 wounded soldiers, transforming their suffering into stories of survival and resilience. Today, the term DUSTOFF continues to resonate, serving as a powerful reminder of the profound impact that unwavering dedication and compassion can have in the face of adversity.
