About Project Dustoff
Our mission is to uplift the quality of life for disabled veterans and their families by transforming their homes into welcoming, accessible spaces that meet their needs and promote independence. We are dedicated to providing support and resources to those who have served our country, ensuring that they and their families can thrive in an environment that caters to their unique requirements. Through our work, we aim to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our nation's heroes and their loved ones.
History of Dustoff Rescues
Coined during the profound challenges of the Vietnam War, the call sign "DUSTOFF"
stands for “Dedicated Unhesitating Service to Our Fighting Forces.” This name
encapsulates a remarkable ethos of compassion and courage. When helicopters landed
in the tumultuous fields, they stirred up clouds of dust and debris, a poignant symbol
of both urgency and hope.
Pilots like Major Charles L. Kelly exemplified extraordinary bravery, often making the
ultimate sacrifice to rescue the wounded from the chaos of war. His last words, “When I
have your wounded…,” reflect an unwavering commitment to those in peril; he
resolutely refused to leave anyone behind. Inspired by his legacy, DUSTOFF soldiers
pledged to prioritize the needs of the injured, embodying a spirit of selflessness
that transcends the battlefield.
Between 1962 and 1973, these dedicated heroes evacuated over 900,000 wounded
soldiers, transforming their suffering into stories of survival and resilience. Today, the
term DUSTOFF continues to resonate, serving as a powerful reminder of the profound
impact that unwavering dedication and compassion can have in the face of adversity.
Project Dustoff Mission
Our mission is to elevate the quality of life for disabled veterans and their families by
transforming their homes into welcoming, accessible spaces that not only meet their
needs but also foster independence. Project Dustoff stands as a tribute to the brave
veterans who sacrificed their lives for our freedom on distant battlefields.
In honoring Major Kelly’s last words, “When I have your wounded,” we are committed to
caring for those who bear the scars of service right here at home. Our dedicated teams
work tirelessly to ensure these heroes and their families have safe, accessible homes,
empowering them to thrive in their everyday lives.
With only about 1.5% of homes in the U.S. being handicap accessible, we recognize the
urgent need for change. These courageous men and women fought valiantly for our
freedom, and now we stand ready to fight for theirs—the freedom to live independently
in their own homes. Together, we can create spaces that reflect their strength and
resilience, honoring their service by providing the comfort and accessibility they deserve.
